Ink and watercolor painting on a vintage Paris map.

Here is a tiny box , from Au Carnaval de Venise, measuring 2 1/2' by 2 " by 5/8" deep, from late 1880's Paris. Baedecker's "Paris and it's Environs" , 1900 edition , sends tourists to the store, for fine English goods - hosiery, umbrellas, and ties. Ties we know were sold here, for a time, by Gabriel d'Yturri. Yturri, a young Argentinian transplant to Paris, was the private secretary and lover of Robert de Montesquiou, famous 19th century "dandy" and homosexual, and upon his early death in 1905, Montesquiou wrote the privately printed book "Le Chancelier de Fleurs" about his lover of 20 years. Perhaps this tiny box passed thru the young man's hands into those of a customer, inside he has placed the customer's new stick pin. Well, one can fantasize. Nevertheless, Au Carnival de Venise must have seen it's share of famous customers , and the pale orchid peeping out under the label reminds one of the colors just seen in the English television adaptation of Emile Zola's "department store" drama, "The Paradise".( If you missed it, the colors and sets are fantastic!) This box is a little worn, a little dirty, but with no tears on corners. For tiny box collectors and vintage Paris fans alike.

The Best Parisian Vintage Dealers Are on Etsy - Vogue

We threw this chic, modern and fun Parisian First Birthday for a special little girl. I tried to put a different spin on this classic inspiration by mixing patterns, vintage pieces, cool signage and lots of tissue crepe! Our favorite element was the made-to-order crepe station (which we made a “menu” for that was inspired by the classic Chanel No.5). We also created a decadent yet fun patisserie with glittery cakepops, french macarons, eclairs and more plus a super-fun photo backdrop for the kids complete with life-size Eiffel tower cut-out. We made cupcake toppers using French phrase conversation bubbles, strawberry mousse with fresh mint sprigs and lots of gorgeous florals like garden roses and anemones as well as fun carnation cone topiaries we made (super easy!!). A simple smash cake that we made was adorned with a black eiffel tower cake topper. We also had face painting for the kids plus some festive Paris Cafe sidewalk accordion music playing during the party!
