Simply take your turtle from its home and place it into a bowl of room temperature water with a few pellets of food and let it be for about 20 minutes. After your turtle has had time to eat you should return him or her to their home. Be sure to wash the bowl you feed your turtle in and wash your hands with soap and water anytime after handling your turtle or its habitat. Remember turtles with a carapace less than 4 inches are sold for scientific, educational or export purposes only. The female map turtle grows to be around 6 to 8 inches in about a 7-year period.
