Are you talking about a 30 gallon tall or a 30 gallon breeder? I ask because they are very different sizes. Remember that tanks are measured in volume, but for a hamster we only care about floor space and bedding depth, not how much water it can hold.
I have an aqueon 30 Gallon Breeder Tank (36x18x12) ..
I've got a 30 breeder and a 38 (I think thats what the math works out to anyway) which are both 36" long. Exact same footprint on both but the 38 is about 20 inches tall. I lucked out and snagged a few 2nd hand finnex leds for both. I have more trouble finding a true 30" fixture (used) to place on my 29 gallon tank. Which surprises me as I thought the 29s were about as common as the 10s and There are some new and some used, but he is selling the new for $50 plus the lid and some substrate, so I feel like I kinda have to get at least one lol. Do you think that it would be more expensive to light a 40 breeder or 40 long?
30 Gallon Breeder Tank · 30 Gallon Extra High Tank
A straight 30 gallon tank is just under the minimum of 450 square inches (so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it), and a 30 gallon breeder has the same floor space/footprint as a 40 gallon breeder, just shorter (which makes it ok, but also not that recommended because you can;t do deep bedding for burrowing). If you were going to get a 30 gallon breeder I'd recommend just getting the 40 breeder, but if you wanted just a regular 30 gallon, I would think really hard about it. What are the dimensions of your bin cage, if you don't mind me asking?
30 Gallon Aqueon Breeder tank - Carolina Fish Talk
I am not sure if this is the place to put this thread but I am looking for a 30 gallon tank to use as a sump for my 90 gallon reef that I am setting up. The available space size in my stand is 46" x 16.5" x 17" and I think a 30 gallon breeder tank would fit in there without a problem. Are you talking about a 30 gallon tall or a 30 gallon breeder? So, went shopping for the lid and we saw a tank identical to mine with same measurements etc. but it was a 40 Gallon!
Also, the lid says "for 40 gallon breeder or 50 gallon". We tried the lid on the store 40 breeder model and it fit like a glove.
Brought it home and it fits like a glove on mine, too. Guess it really is NOT 30, but 40 gallons. ^_^ Yay I guess lol.
After all-day cleanings and some rinse, with new lid:
